Name:
Tamati Te Nohotu. I changed my last name from Rice to Te Nohotu, because I wanted to honour my father and carry his name.
Age:
28 and rising! Yeah!
Iwi:
Ngati Whaatua, Nga Puhi, Ngati Hineira, Irish, Portuguese, and sometimes Ngati Tureiti - hahaha!
Whānau:
Mum - Skippy, father - Te Nohotu, sister - Ngaraiti, nephew - Korihi te Uakaha.
Education:
Poor... ah... All my life is my teacher, like listenin' to da preacher he's sayin' that the Lord's our keeper, I mean I can go deeper but I'll make you a sleeper.
Occupation:
I like to call myself an action man because I do a few things. Some of it earns me money and some of it just occupies my time. I'm an actor, artist and teacher. Also a student and labourer. Heaps eh? And there's more too.
What did you want to be when you were young?
I wanted to be a pilot, but I always got bored in maths, so had to figure something else out. I've always wanted to be an artist and work in the arts. I'm really happy to say that, that is what I'm doing now. Working full time as an artist. I also have to say that life is "swweeeet!!"
Who are your inspirational role models?
Mum, my father, and my sister.
What is your favourite...
· food?
Oooo... Don't get me started. Hmm? A good hangi, especially the kumara and fresh kina, after we've gone down to get them... yummy!!
· music?
Have to say that hiphop's the buzz for me, but I also love reggae and R&B, all kinds really.
· person/people?
Some of my favourite people are my mum, my father my sister and my nephew Korihi, my mates are cool too.
· movie?
There's a movie called "Bamboozled" by one of my favorite directors, an African American by the name of Spike Lee... he da man!!
· TV programme?
Mercy Peak on channel one... nah... doubt it. Any Māori programme because, itŐs giving our people an avenue to whakapuaki our stories and our lives.
· pastime?
I like to spend time with my family. I also like to chill with my mates... laughing, jammin' to some sounds, dancing, and singin'. Anything with my friends. There's always something interesting out there.
What would be your ideal day?
I would wake up about 6am, kiss and karakia with my stunning wife, run out of my flash beach house (in my dreams of course), go for a surf for about 2 hours - it'd be a beautiful summers day. Then I'd have a muesli and fruit breakfast with my mother, sister and nephew. I would then go and work on the whanau land with my father planting native trees until lunch time, around about 1-2pm. We would have fresh snapper, oysters, kina and kumara for lunch with some rewana bread (yeeeeahh!!).
I would then go to my art studio and work on my latest creative project with my mates. After that I would meet my luscious, beautiful wife again at our beach house again for a romantic dinner.
Far out man, I got a wicked imagination all right... Oh well dreams are free eh..?
What is the grossest thing in your fridge?
Nothing, 'cos I don't even have one. I just go to my sister's place and scab from the whanau's fridge.
