Gifted and Talented
School Support Services continue to support the education programmes for the gifted and talented by:
- providing professional development to help schools to review, develop, and implement appropriate policies and programmes for gifted and talented students
- helping schools set up effective management systems and processes to ensure that these policies and programmes are regularly monitored and evaluated
- facilitating professional development opportunities for teachers, based on their identified needs and current level of knowledge, so that these teachers gain increased confidence in their ability to cater for gifted students.
A National Coordination Team based at Waikato University supports the work of the advisers by:
- providing professional development for advisers
- facilitating and communication and collaboration between advisory staff and other professional groups
- ensuring national consistency.
The collection Gifted and Talented School Policies and Programmes leads to a wide range of resources and information to support teachers and schools. This includes links to national and international references and a 'Teacher Talk' interactive forum.
