Literacy Professional Development Project Years 1–8

The Literacy Professional Development Project is a two-year full school professional development project. It is currently being delivered on behalf of the Ministry of Education by Learning Media Limited. Auckland University is collaborating in the project undertaking a research and consultancy role. A new two-year cohort of approximately 130 schools begins in 2006.

The aim of the project is to build on and align with other literacy initiatives in the Literacy Strategy. Schools engaging with the project will have an opportunity for in-depth school-wide professional development in literacy. Teachers, along with the principal and literacy leader, will be supported through an evidence-based change process that will enhance effective literacy teaching practice and raise student achievement in literacy. Schools choose either a reading comprehension or writing focus.

For more information, see Student achievement findings for cohort 1 of the Literacy Professional Development Project 2004/05 (PDF 462KB).
