Introduction

Units of work for key area of learning – Food and nutrition

These units are based on achievement objectives from levels 4 to 6 of the statement Health and Physical Education in the New Zealand Curriculum.

 

Healthy eating

To increase nutritional knowledge which will enable students to make healthier food choices.

 

Healthy food across cultures

To encourage students to look at a range of healthy eating choices, across a range of cultures.

 

Health promotion

To investigate health services within the community and the messages these agencies promote.

 

Routines and procedures

To become familiar with the foods room and be able to prepare, cook, and serve food safely.

 

Food fantastic

To investigate students nutritional needs to promote health and well-being.

 

Roles and responsibilities

To investigate the roles and responsibilities of the family and demonstrate assertive communication skills.

 

Societal factors affecting food choice

To develop good budgeting skills to enable students to meet their development needs.

 

The units have a duration of 15 to 18 lessons.
