This year Kidsafe week is scheduled for the second week in October. This
Hot Topic explores its purpose and collects some sites relevant to the
safety of children both at school and outside class.
Safekids, an organisation founded by Starship Children's Hospital in
Auckland, founded Kidsafe Week in New Zealand in 1996.
The week is designed to focus on raising awareness and promoting injury
prevention at community and national levels.
Making sure kids are safe includes educating children and caregivers
about injury prevention and child safety, educating communities, advocating
for safety conscious legislation and policies, strengthening the skills
of those working in injury prevention, and helping organisations improve
their safety practice.
