The first film in Kiwi director Peter Jackson's trilogy of J. R. R. Tolkien's
The Lord of the Rings is about to hit the big screen.
It was filmed in many, varied, and often remote parts of New Zealand,
boosting the profile of New Zealand in tourism terms as well as the film
making industry. The multi-million dollar production has been keeping
Wellington and a large part of New Zealand's film industry busy since
1999.
The world premiere is planned for London, and it will screen from mid-December
in New Zealand. The second and third parts of the trilogy are planned
for release in December 2002 and 2003.
