Social inquiry
The social inquiry process is also known as 'Jurisprudential Inquiry'. Participants go through the following six stages:
- Orientation to the case.
- Identifying the issues.
- Taking a position.
- Exploring the stance underlying the position taken
- Refining and qualifying the position.
- Testing assumptions about facts, definitions, and consequences.
Example
An activity sequence using this process is given in the Curriculum in Action book Attitudes and Values: Olympic Ideals in Physical Education, pages 12–13. See also examples from sport studies units.
