John Phelps Model for ICT Professional Development - "Your teachers, your classrooms, your pupils and your equipment"

Three years ago John Phelps began trialling a model of teacher development based in the teachers own classroom using the equipment and software that the teacher had at the time and having the teacher and students learning together. Each year since the model has been added to and refined. It has become accepted as an innovative and very successful and cost effective way of providing teacher development. (Note the strong emphasis on the direct support for teachers in the classroom).

The "Your teachers, your classrooms, your pupils and your equipment" model has at present the following acknowledged outcomes:

  • Improved skills and confidence of teachers in using ICT
  • Increased use of ICT in learning programs (we place special emphasis on linking to the curriculum in the class program.)
  • Improved learning outcomes for students
  • Increased levels of information literacy shown by students.
