Each Information and Communication Technology Professional Development (ICT PD) cluster designs local professional development activities appropriate to their situations, expertise, and their common goals. The Ministry of Education works in collaboration with clusters by providing funding and support over three years to schools for implementation of their individual programmes. Each cluster programme is unique; however, most cluster models include a combination of teacher educator facilitation and mentoring, as well as opportunities for feedback, observation, modelling, and peer support. Clusters also use an online environment to discuss and share ideas. All New Zealand educators are welcome to join the ICT PD online environment.
The framework promotes:
- collaboration between schools, particularly between principals
- whole-school focus on pedagogical practice to improve student achievement
- local ownership and implementation of appropriate professional learning activities
- reflective practice focused on improving teaching practices
- development of leadership and facilitator capability
- recognition of the diversity of staff needs.
Experienced national facilitators provide regular guidance and support for individual clusters in implementing and reviewing their programme. National coordination of the programme is provided through regional and national meetings, visits, and an annual national conference, Learning@School.
