This section of the site provides access to case study information
from some schools who have participated in curriculum integration
exploratory studies throughout New Zealand in the last five years
or so. They tell the story of the process that each of these schools
worked through when focusing on curriculum integration. Each case
study also provides an insight into the approach to curriculum integration
that each of the schools have adapted.
Muritai School
Muritai school is a year 0 - 8 school based in the seaside suburb
of Eastbourne in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. This case
study describes the core beliefs that underpin Muritai's approach
to curriculum integration. It provides insight's into their curriculum
integration policy and and the structures which they have put in place
to deliver the curriculum in an integrated fashion.
Freyberg High School
Freyberg High School is a year 9 - 13 high school in the knowledge
centre of New Zealand, Palmerston North. Freyberg has been involved
in curriculum integration since the mid 1980's. This case study documents
the school's latest explorations in curriculum integration, which
involved the formalisation of common assessment procedures within
their integrated studies programme.
Matapu School
Matapu school is a small rural school in the South Taranaki region.
They chose to combine the implementation of curriculum integration
with the development of a collaborative whole. This case study demonstrates
how curriculum integration can lead to change and improvement at the
school wide level.
