The reading partnership (1)

Reading is knowledge! Reading is powerful!

Reading can be a partnership. Read with your child and to your child at home and everywhere.

Print and writing are everywhere. Discover the written words, read them, and talk about them.

Read with and to your child every day; lots and lots of reading together will help to make your child a great reader!

Children often like to read the same book over and over again, so do that – reading a book over and over again is great, so long as you both want to do it.

Make reading fun! Enjoy reading and enjoy books – lots of talk about books can give lots of joy.

Read in your own language. A child who knows about books and printed words in any language (especially in the rich language used most at home) can learn to read well, in English and in other languages.

Write your own words and stories. Your own writing and your child's make great reading material.

Talk to the teachers about your child's reading.

Borrow books from your local library or from school; they are free.

Get into the reading habit with all your family.
