Who are Literacy Development Officers?
Literacy Development Officers:
- are part of the Ministry of Education's School Performance Team
- are part of the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy
- work with school leaders and identified outside support people such as School Support Services, Reading Recovery Tutors, Group Special Education (GSE), Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour, National Library Advisers, Resource Teachers of Literacy.
Why were Literacy Development Officers established?
Literacy Development Officers were established to provide a long term commitment to school leaders to assist in raising student achievement levels in literacy by focusing on school systems and processes.
