Introduction
The School Journal is a magazine-style series publishing in four parts for children from years 3-8. The School Journal is for students to read for their own interest and enjoyment and for teachers to use as a classroom resource both for teaching reading and as a reference source.
This site is designed to guide teachers through exemplary teachers notes from a range of Parts 1-4 School Journals. From 2008 printed teachers' notes will no longer be distributed with each journal, but a selection will be available online through this website. All notes for Parts 1-4 focus on particular teaching purposes as identified through student achievement data, including developing comprehension strategies. It is intended that these notes will provide useful guides in working with similar texts and teaching purposes.
Older notes for Parts 1 and 2 (from 2007 and earlier) are available in the archive section. Teachers' notes for The Journal's Century poster, along with a PDF of a black and white A3 size version of the poster for educational use, is also available.
The School Journal is published on behalf of the Ministry of Education by Learning Media Limited.
