Te Mana

Reflections and celebrations

Workshop evaluations

The following reflections from teachers come directly from the Te Mana Korero One – workshop evaluation forms. These evaluations were completed by teachers who worked with advisors, in using the Te Mana materials. They reflect the deepening level of understanding and awareness of how they can be more effective in their teaching of Māori students.

"The important thing is effective teacher/student relationships, especially in the face of dealing with behavioural problems."

"I now need to ask how my Māori students feel."

"Raising my expectations for all students."

"This is Do-able."

"The importance of maintaining expectation and walking the talk, being honest."

"Useful for self-reflections, really made me think about what I am doing as a teacher and how useful my students might perceive me."

"It's OK to be personable – you can still be professional. Video is an excellent discussion starter. Great presentation and co-facilitation – well run and informative."

"It is the relationship between student/teacher that is vital."

"Increase efforts to get to know students."

"Encourages me to continue being positive and set high expectations."
