Pasifika Hotshots
Kia orana, fakaalofa lahi atu, taloha ni, talofa lava, malo e lelei and welcome to the Pasifika Hotshots website.
Pasifika Hotshots is a vibrant collection of stories and resources available for you to enjoy and use in your classroom or community. It is a celebration of five unique stories told by Pasifika students from Newlands College, Rongotai College, and Wellington East Girls' College.
The five digital stories (short video clips) reflect some of the experiences, views and humour of young Pasifika people growing up in New Zealand. The themes they have explored include immigration, language barriers, family, and challenging tradition.
The stories evolved out of facilitated workshops run within the three schools. The extensive workshop notes and worksheets that were used during the workshops are also here for you to download and use in your classroom. Links to the New Zealand curriculum and a list of useful resources, additional information, and background reading are also included under the headings, 'Resources' and 'Curriculum links'.
The workshops were run over two and a half days and in that time two groups of five students had to write, film, and complete a first edit of their video. The students acted, directed, and even composed original music. The groups were then left for two weeks to complete the editing. The facilitators then returned to the schools for a debrief and a screening of their completed works. Watch the five student videos here on Pasifika Hotshots.
You too could make your stories into fabulous short videos. Take a look at these student
videos to view the different types of stories they have created and the themes they have explored. Download workshop
notes and lots of helpful worksheets to guide you through the process.
