This is the third set of four non-fiction books in the Pūao series (Pūtaiao level 3, Ō Mataora) for students aged 9–10 in Māori medium schools. The series provides material in te reo Māori for reference or to support thematic studies and language programmes. Each book focuses on a different manu a Tāne: tūī, tīrairaka, kererū, and pūkeko. The books will:
- help students to develop a clearer understanding of aspects of the natural world, inspire their curiosity, and enhance their research and reading skills
- help teachers to provide a balanced programme.
