Te Pātaka Matihiko Our Digital Storehouse (Digistore)
A learning object is generally understood as a small digital component that can be used in different learning contexts to engage and motivate student learning. Internet delivery allows teachers to access learning objects on an as-needed basis and embed them in their existing programmes.
Te Pātaka Matihiko Our Digital Storehouse (Digistore) is the New Zealand gateway to a collection of quality digital content (learning objects and resource assets) produced under an initiative of The Le@rning Federation (TLF), a collaboration between the governments of Australia and New Zealand.
The TLF initiative aims to create digital content for years 1–11 in curriculum areas including science, numeracy, literacy (for students at risk), and languages other than English. By the end of 2006, Digistore will provide access to some 4000 learning objects.
Registration
New Zealand schools that fill in the school registration page of Digistore receive the free CD The Learning Object Collection (containing 200 learning objects in maths, science, and literacy) together with login details to access the latest objects loaded on Digistore. Some 300 schools have now registered. School Support advisors can also sign on through the College of Education Digistore registration page.
Digital Opportunities (DigiOps)
DigiOps projects are joint partnerships between schools, organisations involved in ICT, and the Ministry of Education. These partnerships aim to improve learning through the innovative use of information and communications technologies.
Each project is expected to contribute positively to student learning and be relevant to the core curriculum. As well as an introduction and summary for each of the twelve profiled projects, the collection provides a list of the participants and logistical information for each project and adds updates to the introductory pages.
