Pasifika learning materials
Tupu series
The Tupu series provides early childhood services and schools with resources for students who speak or are learning one of five Pasifika languages. Teachers' notes support these resources.
Note about Niue language: From this issue of Resource Link, we are using the word 'Niue' in place of 'Niuean' to describe the language of Niue. This usage aligns to the draft curriculum document for vagahau Niue (Niue language), which is currently being developed for publication.
Ko te Porotaka by Maria Samuela
The brothers and sisters in this new Cook Islands Māori story (item 31306) wonder what to do when the power goes off. They grumble about no electronic games or television and, when Papa suggests an alternative activity, they're not very convinced.
Ko te Porotaka, adapted from a story in English (in School Journal, Part 2 Number 3, 2005) is suited to the interests of children in years 5–8 but can be used at more than one curriculum level. (The Notes for Teachers booklet is item 31326.)
This story is also available as:
- Lupe Lalaga (Niue, item 31304)
- Pe'ape'a (Sāmoan, item 31302)
- Lalaga Pekapeka (Tokelauan, item 31303)
- Tapili (Tongan, item 31305).

Toku Uho by Sally Sutton

When the younger sister is too scared to come down the slide, two sisters get left behind in the playground. After some help from her big sister, little sister gets down.
Toku Uho, based on the Ready to Read story My Sister, will especially interest students in years 1–4 but can be used at more than one curriculum level. (The Notes for Teachers booklet is item 31325.)
This title is also available as:
- Toku Teina (Cook Islands Māori, item 31391)
- Ko e Tehina Haaku (Niue, item 31392)
- 'O Lo'u Uso (Sāmoan, item 31393)
