Playing Our Stories: Classroom Drama in Years 1–6
The resource Playing Our Stories: Classroom Drama in Years 1–6 shows teachers and students working within different dramatic contexts using the elements, techniques, and conventions of drama to develop and express their understandings about human experience. It is a companion resource to Telling Our Stories: Classroom Drama in Years 7–10.
The DVD shows seven classes at year levels ranging from 1 to 6 (curriculum levels 1–3). Each of the seven segments illustrates ways of teaching and learning in drama that illuminate the curriculum achievement objectives for drama and link to some of the other essential learning areas.
The book suggests how teachers can prepare for classroom drama and integrate drama into their overall programme. It also offers suggestions on managing drama in the classroom and outlines teaching plans for the drama work featured in the video.
The purpose of Playing Our Stories is to develop and extend drama education practice in the classroom. The examples in the DVD and book will encourage teachers to explore the possibilities of drama in their own classrooms.
