An overview of the Learning Languages series for years 7–8
For details of the newest resource in this series, see the page 1 description of Ka Mau te Wehi!, which supports teachers and learners of te reo Māori in English-medium settings. The other resources in this series (previously called the International Languages series) are:
- Hai! An Introduction to Japanese
- Oui! An Introduction to French
- ¡Sí! An Introduction to Spanish
- Ja! An Introduction to German
- Hăo! An Introduction to Chinese.
Each integrated package of language materials offers a flexible, entry-level resource for teachers and students new to the language. These materials encourage teachers to adopt the role of facilitator in the classroom, learning along with their students.
The materials for each language include sets of printed materials, a double audio CD, and a video. The printed materials include transcripts of the audio and video elements. There is also an introductory video to the whole series.
The Ministry of Educations's online resource centre Te Kete Ipurangi introduces and supports each course. This site provides ongoing information related to the course, a place where those working with the course can exchange their views and insights, and a range of links to other organisations and resources that offer material to support the learning of each language. Select the language you are interested in from the Learning Languages community page.
Distribution
The whole set of materials for each language can be ordered or the component parts. Call Learning Media Customer Services to discuss their availability or to confirm the education price for further copies of these materials.
