Thinking globally: New Zealand in the economic world
This resource fosters an appreciation of New Zealand’s place in the economic world and its role as part of the global economy. It has been developed by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to mark Export Year 2007. It consists of two teachers’ books for years 1–8 and 9–13, which will also be made available on the (future) redeveloped Social Sciences Online.
Each book contains background information about trade, a list of useful references, a glossary of economic terms, suggested outlines for two units of learning, and student activies.
Thinking Globally 1 includes one unit at levels 1–2 and one at levels 3–4.
Thinking Globally 2 includes one unit at level 5 and one at level 7. The latter will enable students to meet the internally assessed AS 2.4 (90797): Process, present and analyse statistical data in relation to given economic issues.
The information and activities can be used to help students understand the ideas and issues covered in the Economic World strand of the draft social sciences curriculum, including trade, New Zealand’s place in the economic world, and the importance of exporting to maintaining and improving our standard of living.
Item 31941 (years 1–8).
Item 31942 (years 9–13).
