Children’s Day 2007
Children’s Day 2007 was celebrated on Sunday 4 March. This year’s theme is “giving time”. Some examples of reading resources already in schools that teachers could use to support sessions around this theme include:
- Eva’s Picture (My Feelings, item 31614). This book illustrates a special relationship between a young girl and her aunty. Eva’s family take the time to help her to make something special to send to her aunty.
- My Dad (Ready to Read, item 31618). A boy talks about how much fun he has with his dad. Dad does lots with him, as the illustrations show.
- My Sister (Ready to Read, item 31129). A big sister helps her little sister to overcome her fear of heights.
- Skate Champs (Ready to Read, item 31617). The whole family, but especially Dad, support Luka in his skateboarding competitions. This book would support discussion around giving time to help others achieve their goals.
- Tom’s Tryathlon (Ready to Read, item 30674). Tom wants to give tryathlons a go. His dad is there all the way to help him out.
- “Junk” (School Journal, Part 1 Number 3, 2006). Poppa helps Joshua to work towards getting something he wants.
Towards Full Registration 2007 update
The 2007 update of the Towards Full Registration kit includes replacement pages and some new material. The new material includes details about the Kindergarten Tutor Teacher Allowance, revised contact details, and a new appendix containing templates to help schools with planning an Advice and Guidance programme.
It is important that this folder is kept up to date. An accompanying checklist explains where the updated pages should be placed. To see if your folder is up to date, you can check (and print pages from) the New Zealand Teachers’ Council website Towards full registration.
