Two new chapter books
RT3: Ki Tua o Tāwauwau nā Tākuta Hōhepa
Ko te pukapuka tuatoru tēnei mō RT3. He mea kāhaki a Hinewai e tētahi o ngā waka ātea o Poika, hei whakarau nā Piki – tētahi o ngā hoariri o Rangi. Ka puta ngā riri kaikino ki te whenua o Poika, ā, ka hangaia e Rangi tētahi rautaki e rauora ai a Hinewai. Ko te mutunga iho, ka tūtaki atu a Rangi ki tōna matua, i mate kē e hia tau ki muri. In the final book of the RT3 trilogy, Hinewai, together with Rangi’s nemesis, Piki, are captured by one of Poika’s spacecraft. Rangi embarks on a rescue mission as Poika’s kingdom is plunged into outright war; then, in a strange and moving way, Rangi meets his long-dead father.

Rēkohu, Taku Kāinga e
Ka whakaatu mai a Tazmin Peni i ngā āhuatanga o tōna kāinga, ko te moutere o Rēkohu. Kāore e tino rerekē ngā āhuatanga o reira, ki ērā o te nuinga atu o Aotearoa. I tua atu i te haere ki te kura, arā anō ngā mahi a Tazmin, pērā i te eke motopaika, te hī ika, te noho puni, te aha atu, te aha atu. Ka whakaaturia mai ngā momo tipu me ngā momo manu o ēnei moutere, tae atu hoki ki ngā kōrero tuku iho mō ngā “karapuna”, arā ngā tīpuna. He pukapuka tēnei e hāngai ana ki te marau tikanga-ā-iwi.
Tazmin Peni introduces us to her home on remote Rēkohu, where family life is surprisingly similar to that of the rest of Aotearoa. Tazmin spends her out-of-school time on her farm bike or off fishing and camping with her family. We see some of the flora and fauna of the islands, and we hear stories of Tazmin’s “karapuna” or ancestors. A title to support the tikanga-ā-iwi curriculum.
