Access to digital learning objects with Digistore
Teachers are encouraged to register with Digistore to access digital learning objects for teaching programmes. Digistore houses a collection of quality digital content (learning objects and resource assets) produced by The Le@rning Federation (TLF), a collaboration between the governments of Australia and New Zealand. By 2007, Digistore will provide access to some 4000 learning objects (LOs) covering a range of learning areas for years 1–11. This digital content is designed to engage, challenge, and motivate learners.
As part of an environmental studies unit, year 7 students might use the Save the Lake LO to make predictions and carry out virtual chemical tests to identify sources of pollution. Teachers can use Save the Lake ahead of their field trip to model the actual tests the students will do. The LO can also be used to simulate tests that might be too difficult or dangerous for students to do with the actual chemicals.
If your students are working at the early additive part–whole stage of the Number Framework, consider using Part Adder. This LO helps students to learn how to split larger numbers into more manageable number chunks for adding in their heads. Students using this LO select levels of difficulty and get supportive feedback, which contributes to their sense of being in control of what they are learning.
