Kiwi Kidsongs Waiata 15: He Waiata mō ngā Kaupapa Ake
Kiwi Kidsongs Waiata 15 is part of the Kiwi Kidsongs series, but has a slightly different emphasis. The idea behind the collection is to provide schools with waiata that can be sung on particular occasions, such as welcomes, celebrations, tangi, and farewells. This collection has been sent to both primary and secondary schools because the songs are considered suitable for younger and older students.
The kit consists of the audio CD of ten waiata, together with teachers’ notes, music, and lyric sheets. Translations of the waiata are included. A list of other waiata you may wish to revisit in earlier collections is also provided.
The songs cover a range of musical styles, from traditional to reggae and rap. As well as including such traditional waiata as “Utaina”, “Tōia Mai”, and “E Pari Rā”, it offers items by modern composers such as Kua Ranea Aperahama, Hirini Melbourne, and Paraire Tomoana.
Unlike other Kiwi Kidsong collections, this CD emphasises singing rather than instrumental arrangements, although most songs can be accompanied by guitar. Tracks 1–10 give the full arrangement of each waiata, and tracks 11–18 offer instrumental versions of some of the waiata for students to sing along to.
Item 31401.
