For this game you will need a family size pack of wrapped toffees
or similar product.
The toffees are divided into three piles
(use plastic plates).
The first pile has 50, second 30
and third 20 toffees.
A spinner is set up in the midle of the room
and students take turns to spin it.
Those students landing in the red zone go to the front of the room.
Those landing on yellow go to the middle right of the room.
Those landing on green go the the back corner.
The teacher then distributes the three piles of toffees.
The largest share (50) goes to the red group which is the smallest.
The yellow group receive the next largest share (30).
The green group which is the largest receives the least (20).
In their groups students are asked to discuss how they feel about the share they received
and whether they thought it was fair.
They summarise their
groups' feelings on a slip of paper.
Discuss the feedback as a whole class.
Refer back to the Definitions activity:
- What do each of the groups represent?
- Who belongs to each of these groups?
