In pairs or small groups students refer to the information
What MPs do
(online or as a printout) and
The Role of a Member of
Parliament (online or as a printout) and identify what MPs do actually do.
- Provide each group with felt pens and a large (preferably A1 or A0)
sheet of paper.
Each group draws the outline of a human figure representing their local MP,
or an MP of their choice, on their paper.
Using speech bubbles, box frames, symbols, key words and any other
appropriate strategies, students summarise the key roles of Members of
Parliament in New Zealand.
- Each group also prepares Ten Questions that they would like to ask their
MP about his/her role as an MP.
Discuss types of questions (eg. open and closed) before starting this
activity.
- Decide on a set of questions that could be put to your local MP either
in person or via an audioconference or by email, from the class.
- Contact your local MP or a List MP and arrange for him/her to answer the
students' questions.
