The final section of this unit that looks at government in New Zealand today
is an ideal opportunity to look at current issues facing the country. This
can be done as a homework exercise over a week, the task being to collect at
least one cartoon commenting on a recent political issue. They should also
try and find out which personalities are in the cartoon and the issue being
commented on.
A report back session to class can be held with cartoons being stuck in
books with a write up underneath. The issues change constantly and you need
to pick your moment when something of interest comes up.
This material has been produced by UNITEC Institute of Technology
under contract to the Ministry of Education.
