How can we have a say in government?

  1. Petition Parliament.

  2. Make Submissions to a Select Committee.

  3. Initiate a Referendum.

  4. For other ideas check out the Participate in Government section of the New Zealand Government site.

  5. Voting.

Divide the class into small groups and allocate one of the strategies for "having a say" to each group. Each group produces a "How to..." poster explaining how New Zealanders can use their particular strategy to influence government.
