Conduct an Inquiry into how different groups of people view and use
Antarctica.
Make sure you have web sites, books and school journals available for
students' information gathering.
Either allocate or allow students to select two different groups of people
who visit Antarctica. Use some of the occupations in the
Who Knows Grid as a
guide. Alternatively, you may want to use a more general group such as
"scientists" and one other.
Frame questions
Frame questions to focus the Inquiry into how different groups of people
view and use Antarctica.
Gather information
Gather information about your
groups of people from at least two sources.
Look for at least one quotation that shows how that group views the
Antarctic, and make notes of examples of how they use the Antarctic.
Organise the information
Use images, quotes and factual examples to explain ways these groups view
and use Antarctica.
Make a generalisation
Make a general statement about how these groups view and use Antarctica.
Communicate Findings
Present your findings to the class on PowerPoint or as OHPs.
This material has been produced by UNITEC Institute of Technology
