Students are required to locate and gather information from a variety of
sources. This information will be processed and presented. A mini inquiry
will take one to two periods of class time. The purpose is to give students
a chance to inquire and discover.
Give students the inquiry worksheet/venn diagram/compare and contrast
grid and advise them of the time they have to complete all the tasks. It seems
to work best when the process is guided and the worksheet/venn diagram/grid
provides the framework. This structure reduces the time students need to
make decisions about what to research.
You may wish to have all the resources ready in the classroom or to take the
students to the library. Remember to include visuals, web sites, text,
video, tape recordings, CD Roms, graphs, figures etc for the students to
consult.
The students can complete a mini inquiry individually, in pairs or as part
of a group. The inquiry can be presented on the worksheet or as a chart,
multimedia presentation, tape recording, video, poster, OHT's etc.
The students must include a bibliography/reference list.
