- The body is washed with palm wine and then rinsed with water from
the Nile.
- The internal organs are removed.
- The Liver, Lungs, Stomach and Intestines are washed and
packed in natron.
- A long hook is used to smash the brain and pull it out
through the nose.
- The body is covered and stuffed with natron.
- After 40 days the body is washed with water from the Nile
and covered with oils.
- The internal organs are wrapped in linen and returned to the body. They
used to be kept in Canopic Jars. The body is stuffed with
sawdust and leaves.

- The head and neck are wrapped with strips of fine linen. The
fingers and toes are individually wrapped.
- The arms and legs are wrapped separately. Amulets are placed
between layers of wrapping to protect the body in its journey to the
underworld.
- A priest reads spells out aloud while the mummy is wrapped. Spells
help to ward off evil spirits.
- Arms and legs are tied together. Spells from the Book of the Dead
are placed with the mummy.
- More linen strips are wrapped around the body.
- A cloth is wrapped around the body and a picture of the God Osiris
is painted on.
- A large cloth is wrapped around the entire mummy.
- The mummy is placed in a coffin. The first coffin is placed inside a
second coffin.
- A funeral is held for the deceased.
- The ritual "Opening of the Mouth" is performed.
- The coffin is placed in the large sarcophagus in the tomb, along
with furniture, clothing, food and drink
- The body is now ready for the journey to the
Underworld.
