FACTS ON THE NILE
The Nile got its name from the Greek, Neiles.
The shape of the Nile resembles a lotus flower.
The Nile is over 6650 km long.
WHAT IS THE NILE RIVER AND DELTA?
The most extensive oasis on earth.
The Nile reaches the Delta at Cairo where it spreads into many smaller rivers to go to the Mediterranean Sea.
HOW IS THE NILE USED FOR FARMING?
The first irrigation by the Nile River is when seeds were sown in the mud which was left after the rivers annual flood waters.

WHAT IS THE BLUE NILE AND THE WHITE NILE?
In April, May, June the White Nile supplies over 80% of the water for Egypt. The water in the While Nile is white (from rapids) and the water in the Blue Nile is Blue.
WHY IS THE NILE IMPORTANT?
Provides water for drinking, water for plants to harvest, has a wide variety of wild life, is a source of transport.
WHAT IS THE ASWAN DAM? WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
The dam benefits Egypt by controlling the annual floods.
