Although specifically dealing with Otago and Southland, much of it is
generic.
It is divided into eight time periods:
- Moa hunter and Kai Tahu -before 1750
- European exploration (Capt Cook) - 1750-1790
- Australian influence (sealers and whalers) - 1790-1840
- Scottish settlement - 1840-1860
- Gold rushes - 1860-1870
- Vogel - 1870-1880
- Outflow -1880-1940
- Since WWII - 1940-1996
Within these eight time periods are six common themes:
- Where people came from
- The work they came to do
- The settlements they made
- The role of women and children
- The effects on the landscape
- Transportation
Each segment of the CD-ROM contains photographs, paintings and drawings,
and an associated study guide.
So you can see that "Gold" is one eighth of the CD-ROM. It is brought up
to date with the modern-day Macraes mine.
This material has been produced by UNITEC Institute of Technology
under contract to the Ministry of Education.
