Rule up a page into three columns - as in the example below.

Students quietly, on their own, without discussing with others, attempt
their definition of each term in the First Definition column. They do NOT
attempt to write anything in the last column at this point.
As the terms are encountered in the course of the unit, have students
complete the Second Definition column with agreed on "correct" definitions.
This becomes a handy Glossary for future reference.
Be prepared to add terms to the list in the course of the unit. Other useful
terms that may need clarification are military terms such as Regiment,
platoon, battalion, sappers and so on.
