Organise the class into small groups - 3 - 5 students per group is about right. Prepare a set of scenarios related to the topic - it is handy to have them on laminated card so they can be re-used.

Before starting the activity have each student draw up a grid of squares (one for each scenario) for a series of storyboards.

Provide each group with one of the scenarios. Their task is to set up a freeze frame or snapshot of a moment in time. They need to know what happens before and after the snapshot has been taken; the emotions and feelings that each character is experiencing.

Each group in turn sets up its snapshot and on command freezes for about 10 - 20 seconds. The rest of the class can quickly sketch the scene before them into the appropriate square on their storyboard grids.

The group can now unfreeze and outline their scenario to the class; or they can remain in role and respond to questions from the class about the event they are portraying.

The class can add no more than three words to their storyboard image if they wish.
