It's one of New Zealand's worst nightmares, a devastating disease like foot and mouth, hitting the agricultural sector.

How would an outbreak of foot and mouth affect New Zealand?

Article A: The economic impact
Article B: The impact on consumers

  1. Organise the class into pairs and provide each pair with access to both of the articles.
  2. Student A summarises Article A and explains how an outbreak of foot and mouth disease would affect all New Zealanders' access to resources, goods and services.
  3. Student B does the same with Article B.
  4. Students can investigate the Foot and Mouth Crisis in Britain by checking out the Viewpoints archive.
  5. Students summarise the likely impact of an outbreak of foot and mouth on New Zealand and New Zealanders by completing a Mind Map.
