Click on these buttons to find out more information about each part of the climb to the summit

Student Button
Student Button
Each part of the route has a "Student Button" link. This part is designed to "talk" to the students about each stage of the 1953 Everest climb as if they were actually there, literally climbing in Sir Edmund Hillary's footsteps. It will help to paint a picture for them of what it was like for the climbers on the Everest expedition in 1953, and go some way to transporting them to Mt Everest in their minds. Just as Sir Edmund Hillary lived and played out the adventures of other famous explorers [Shackleton, Scott and Shipton] in his mind as a child.
Photo Button
Photo Button
This button will link to a photo of the particular part of the route the students are at, helping to bring the route to the summit more alive and real for them. There are photos of the camps, crevasses, scenes and climbers along the way.
Map Button
Map Button
The map button indicates a relevant map of the route from the 1953 expedition. This is important because the route used today has fewer camps, and as a result the camp numbers do not relate to the 1953 camps.
