Draw a sketch map of Tristan da Cunha.

All maps need five things:

  • a title
  • a frame
  • a key
  • a compass
  • a scale

  1. Sketch a circular shape with a 5.5cm radius in the middle of your paper. Your scale is 1cm=1km.

  2. Mark the centre of the island with a symbol for a mountain (^). Label the mountain Queen Mary's Peak [2060m].

  3. Draw in main streams/rivers radiating from the peak area to the coast. Mark them evenly. Do not draw straight lines.

  4. Shade in the narrow plateau from the base of Queen Mary's Peak to the coast. This is in a NNW direction from the peak.

  5. Mark an area 500m in from the coast, on the plateau. Label it Edinburgh.

  6. Put in your frame, compass, title, and key and scale.
