After having read and/or listened to the audio tape of the chapters in Borany's Story that describe the family's departure
from Phnom Penh and the stages of their journey to the village in Pursat
(A World Burning With Flame; The River is Always Changing; Our Introduction to
Pursat) and the chapter describing what happened to the family during their
time in Pursat (A Dream for Every Death), complete the following activity.
On your own or in a group:
- Outline three reasons why the family moved from Phnom Penh to the country
and then on to the village in Pursat;
- Identify some of the consequences (short term and long term) of each move
for the family;
- Describe how the mass evacuation of Phnom Penh would have affected the
city;
- Describe the impact of the arrival of so many city people on the
countryside where they stayed.
You may find it helpful to use the Consequences Chart to help you organise
your information to begin with.
You can choose how you present your information, but whichever method you
choose it must allow you to answer all the questions.
e.g. chart; poster; Powerpoint slides;
minibook; cartoon
strips; mock radio
interviews; Web page; letter.....
