General Background
Divide the class into groups of six students.
Either provide online access to
Landmines - The
Facts or provide a printed version
for each group (including the
map for
Where the Mines Come From).
Each group will also need cardboard squares approximately 20cm x 20cm for
Tiles, a sheet of paper large enough to glue all six cardboard squares on
to, and glue sticks.
Each member of the group is responsible for one of the following six
headings:
- The Basics;
- Where the Mines Come From;
- The Worst Affected;
- Who They Kill;
- The Social Cost;
- The Medical Cost.
(Leave out Why They Don't Make Sense unless the class has uneven numbers.)
Each student will create a Tile for a group Tile Mosaic illustrating, with
words and visuals, the key points from their section of the material.
Place the completed Mosaics around the room for reference during the unit.
