    Some facts

  3. What are landmines exactly?
    How do landmines affect people and places?

Changes to Places

  1. Landmine Contamination
    Landmines are a lethal and highly destructive form of pollution. They have a huge impact on both the people and the places where they are deployed.

  2. How has the dispersal of landmines changed places?
    Before and After. Students use a Comparison Chart or modified Venn Diagram to compare places before and after landmines are deployed.

  3. Mini Inquiry
    Students investigate the impact of landmines on people and places by conducting a Social Studies Inquiry.

  4. Changes in Society
    Having completed the Social Studies Inquiry, students explain how societies have changed as a consequence of landmines wreaking havoc in communities.

The Landmine Issue

  1. Demining
    What can be done to remove landmines? Who are the deminers?

  2. The Campaign Against Landmines
    How do people organise themselves to deal with issues such as landmines?

  3. Participating in Society
    Why do people get involved in campaigns against landmines and what are some of the effects of this involvement?

  4. Deciding on Social Action in relation to the landmines issue
    What can we do about landmines?
