This Assessment schedule focuses on the Inquiry Process.

The knowledge Achievement Objective and the Learning Outcomes that focus the Social Decision Making are

AO: Social Organisation 4.1 - How people organise themselves in response to challenge and crisis.
LO: Explain how a group of refugees faced challenges and organised themselves in a new country.

Students will be able to:

  • Write a news report using appropriate conventions
  • Explain how a group of refugees organised themselves to cope with a crisis.
  • Conduct an inquiry:
    • Choose a group of refugees to research
    • Ask questions they want answers to
    • Find one or more photos for the news report
    • Collect and note down information from at least 3 sources
    • Draw a map to show the movement of refugees
    • Write a headline for the report
    • Organise and plane the layout of text, photo and map
    • Use notes to write the news report
    • Focus on how the group of refugees have faced challenges and organised themselves in their new country.

    • Map showing place of origin
    • Picture or photograph

Criteria for merit

  • Newspaper/magazine conventions followed
  • Heading size is different to text size
  • Included is
    • One cause
    • Two effects
    • Two challenges the refugees faced
    • One way they organised themselves
    • Map showing place of origin and destination
    • Picture or photograph

Criteria for excellence

  • Newspaper/magazine conventions and layout followed
  • Heading size and font is different to text size and font
  • Included are
    • Two causes
    • More than two effects
    • Three challenges the refugees faced
    • Two ways they organised themselves
    • Map showing place of origin and destination and approximate route followed
    • 2 photographs
