Discuss the title - "A Long Way Home". What does it mean to you?

Use questions like

  • What does home mean to you
  • Have you been away from home and/or family often?
  • How does it feel?
  • What do you miss?
  • Do students have any stories to tell?
  • Do they know any refugees and their stories?
  • How would it feel never to get home again?

These will give a start into the topic and get the children emotionally involved.
