Conduct an Inquiry that:

Part 1
Explains (in a PowerPoint presentation) what happens on a marae:

  • give examples of kawa (Marae protocol)
  • describe the layout of the marae complex
  • use Te Reo o te marae (Maori language relating to the marae)

Part 2
Describes (in an oral presentation) how the Meeting House reflects Maori culture and heritage

  • give two examples
  • use models to illustrate examples

Collect and Record information
Gather information by taking notes from a video and online sources and marae visit.

Ask questions
Create research questions to focus the inquiry into what happens on a marae.

Collect and Record Information
Take notes, take and save digital photographs.

Sort Information
Collate answers to questions, digital photographs, models and notes to design a set of slides for a PowerPoint Presentation and oral presentation.

Use evidence to Generalise
Include a generalisation about what happens on a marae.

Communicate Findings Complete the PowerPoint presentation and oral presentation.
