The Achievement Objective and Learning Outcomes that are being assessed are:

Achievement Objectives:
Ways in which communities reflect the cultures and heritages of their people
How people interact within their cultural groups and with other cultural groups

Learning Outcomes:
Explain what happens on a marae
Describe how a meeting house reflects Maori culture and heritage

Students will be able to:

  • give five examples of kawa (Marae protocol)
  • describe the layout of the marae complex
  • use Te Reo o te marae (Maori language relating to the marae)
  • give two examples of how the Meeting House reflecs maori culture and heritage
  • use models to illustrate examples

Inquiry process:

There must be evidence that the student has:

  • Asked questions to focus the inquiry into what happens on a marae.
  • Collected and recorded information by taking notes from a video, online sources and marae visit.
  • Sorted Information including digital photographs, clipart and notes
  • Included a generalisation about what happens on a marae in the PowerPoint.
  • Completed the PowerPoint presentation and oral presentation.
