- On a large sheet (A3 or larger) of newsprint, students list the changes
that have been identified for different aspects of their culture (in
Activity 7).
- Either: provide each group with two
Segment Charts
Or: two sheets of
coloured card so they can draw up their Segment Chart outlines.
Either: provide each group with prepared sets of question cards for each of
the following;
Or: have the questions on an OHT and have the students copy them on to their
Segment Charts (curving around the inner rim of the circle works best)
Traditional Culture
- What qualities did people need to live then?
- What rules (of society) did people live by?
- Why did people live where they did?
- What did they value?
- What resources were available to them?
- How did people relate to each other?
- What affected decisions people made?
- What did people have most control over?
Our Culture Today
- What qualities do people need to live now?
- What rules (of society) do people live by today?
- Why do people live where they do?
- What do we value?
- What resources are available to us?
- How do people relate to each other?
- What affects decisions people make?
- What do people have most control over?
- Students discuss each question and record their ideas in the relevant
segments.
- Each group presents their ideas to the class using their Segment Charts.
- Discuss the class's overall findings and identify reasons why cultures
adapt and change.
- Each group can then prepare a visual of their choice to explain reasons
for change in their culture. Display the completed visuals around the room.
