Steps:

• Identify the key stages in the research process.
• Organise the events into the correct sequence.
• Count the number of stages and consider which type of flow chart will work best.
• Allow sufficient space between the stages to draw linking arrows.
• Write a brief summary of each stage and add the linking arrows.
• Give the completed flow chart an appropriate title.

The flow chart establishes an appropriate framework for the inquiry.

• Identify the question (or establish an hypothesis).
• Identify what data has to be collected.
• Set up appropriate data collection methods.
• Collect and record data from primary and secondary sources.
• Organise data.
• Communicate findings.
• Evaluate results and process.
