(adapted from the Level 1 Inquiry Achievement Standard)

    Develop a framework for the Inquiry:
  1. identify a focus for the Inquiry (may be provided by the teacher or selected by the student);
  2. develop research questions and/or appropriate data gathering questions;
  3. check out any ethical procedures applicable to the inquiry;
  4. decide on appropriate methodology for information collection, recording and processing;
  5. decide on appropriate mode for communicating information;
  6. identify possible primary and/or secondary sources;
  7. plan strategies for dealing with problems or issues that might arise;
  8. decide on time management strategies.

    Start Inquiring:

  9. collect and record information;
  10. organise and process the information;
  11. communicate the information using appropriate conventions;
  12. draw conclusions that relate to significant ideas about society.

    Evaluate:

  13. evaluate the inquiry process which, could include checking for:
    • accuracy
    • relevance
    • sufficiency
    • significance
  14. identify areas for improvement/extension/follow up.
