Indicators of Development
- Social Indicators
Population Growth Rate: This is the percentage by which a country's
population is growing each year.
Life Expectancy at Birth: This tells you the average number of years a
newborn baby is expected to live.
Adult Literacy Rate: The percentage of the adult population who can read and
write.
Daily Food Supply: Is measured in calories and indicates the energy value of
an average diet in a country.

Gross National Product (GNP): The total value of all goods and services
produced in that country in that year.
Energy Consumption: The wealthier nations use the bulk of the world's energy
to run their industries, transport systems and homes. It is measured by the
amount of power that can be derived from a kilogram of coal, whether it is
produced by oil, gas wood etc.
Labour Force Employed in Agriculture: Expressed as a percentage of the total
workforce. A high percentage indicates a developing country where there is
little technology used in agriculture.
